>>LEARN MOREA full examination is required before any surgical procedure and takes approximately 90 minutes. Your eyes will be dilated, so we recommend you have a driver. This examination will test visual acuity, eye muscle movements, peripheral vision, the retina, intraocular pressure, cornea imaging, dry eye testing, pupil size , and other components of an eye exam. You will also be able to discuss your proposed surgery with Dr. Shapiro
Arrange for transportation on the day of your surgery. Although the surgery itself only takes a brief amount of time, you will be at the surgery center for one hour. A short time before your surgery, we will guide you to the surgical suite where one of our staff members will review your post-op instructions and may provide medication in the form of a pill to help you relax. Anesthetic drops will be used to numb your eyes, and the area surrounding your eyes will be thoroughly cleaned with antiseptic solution. Afterwards, Dr. Shapiro will examine your eyes.
Post-operative exams will be scheduled at a convenient Shapiro Eye Care location or with your regular eye doctor. We recommend a one day, two week, one month, three month, six month, and one year visit. Dr. Shapiro will review details with you. Shapiro Eye Care provides treatment in partnership with many optometrists throughout our region to ensure that you receive the best possible care. Ask us if your eye doctor is a “co-managing” partner with Shapiro Eye Care.
